Thanks for letting us know about this Frank! I remember Veritas being mentioned on the board a while ago but I didn't realise it had been published. I shall have to check it out on Amazon, I'd definately be intrested in reading it I may have to wait a while until I can afford to get it though Maybe I'll ask for it for my birthday or Xmas - but thats a long time away! I've made rather too many musical purchases recently and I need to save some money to either go to Meltdown or Cornbury, plus I still need to buy The Aschere Project!

Veritas 1 is out of stock at the mo on Amazon Uk, 2 is available for pre - order
I'll post the Amazon product description for anyone who hasn't got round to looking on Amazon -
Veritas is a rock-and-roll story which digs deeply into the roots of 1960s British Rock. Told by Peter Quaife - the co-founder and bassist of The Kinks - the novel follows Marcus Manton from his early discovery of music to his life as a working musician. The novel opens in the 1920s with Margaret Chase, a young woman as she is about to conceive and manipulate her marriage to the kindly and shy Jegs Manton. Through Marg, we see a working- class nation struggle through financial hardship and the uncertainty of the Second World War. With Jegs in the military, Marg and her young family are evacuated to a farm in Tavistock, a small, Devonshire village where in 1943, Marcus Edward Manton, is born. Marcus's attraction to music is first noticed by his Aunt Josie who offers him basic piano lessons, at which Marcus excels and develops an appreciation and dedication to American blues along with his schoolboy friend, Trevor "Nobby" Gardener. The reckless "Nobby," through his fascination of sound and electronics, designs his own amplifiers and guitar gadgetry and his curiosity helps to shape him into an original and vibrant guitarist. Together as The Elmores (after American bluesman Elmore James) and with Alan Fitzgerald, a schoolboy friend on bass, and Jørgen Begyndelsen or Yern, a drummer of Danish descent, they embark on a musical journey which takes them from school dances to local clubs. With the fledgling musicians, readers will encounter a fascinating cast of dedicated musicians, rock and blues fanatics, club owners, impresarios, mentors, frauds, swindlers, and drug dealers. While Marcus's story is fictional, it parallels that of many rock-and-roll heroes. It is a story marked by struggle, frustration, teenage angst, exhilaration, some serendipity and some incredibly hard work.

"Pete Quaife's book, Veritas, is out today. It is a rock-and-roll story which digs deeply into the roots of British rock and the swinging 60s. The novel is a fictional account of Marcus Manton from his early discovery of music to his life as a working musician in the clubs of London. Pete wrote this book over a period of many years after he left the Kinks. This is the first volume of 2. RIP Pete"
